The Shubert Theatre puts the spotlight on New Haven's local talent in our all-new Elm City's Cabaret. Patrons will be seated at tables to enjoy an evening of performance in an intimate setting.
Now in its third year, the Shubert Theatre launched Elm City's Finest to recognize the diverse artists within our city. Talent from nearly every artistic form—music, dance, spoken word, visual art—has been celebrated on our stage. As we continue to showcase artists, each Elm City’s Finest event will focus on an artistic discipline.

Up on the Down Beat is a supergroup based in New Haven, CT formed with the goal of revitalizing Funk in the state and beyond. Composed of highly sought after members of the regional Jazz, RnB/Soul and experimental music scenes, these members are united under the banner of bringing a good time to their audiences. They take inspiration from classic funk & soul groups such as Parliament, Tower of Power, Maceo Parker and Rufus and Chaka Khan, as well as inspiration from more Contemporary Jazz and RnB/Soul acts such as Roy Hargrove and the RH Factor, Erykah Badu, BIGYUKI, Immanuel Wilkins and more. Up on the Down Beat blend contemporary sounds with fearless exploration while being rooted in the addictive groove and danceable rhythms of Funk. With fresh grooves to keep you moving, Up on the Down Beat invite you to dance with them on their meteoric rise in the music scene.
