Education & Outreach: Did You Know?

The Shubert Theatre partners with Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School, the New Haven Public Schools arts magnet high school one block down, to provide students with multiple arts opportunities.  The Shubert's education and outreach team are "imbedded" in the school, with their own school office between the two theater spaces.  Kelly Wuzzardo, the Shubert Director of Education and Outreach, serves as the facility manager for Co-Op, managing all of Co-Op's arts spaces and handling rentals of those spaces for community organizations.  In addition, education assistant Janie Alexander runs a technical production program for Co-Op students.  When rentals are scheduled, those students are then hired and paid to run the events.  The Shubert also manages an ushering internship for Co-Op students, teaching them to usher both Co-Op and Shubert performances.  This year, Janie will be teaching an independent study in technical theater to a small group of senior students who want advanced training.  Every year, students learn through Broadway series shows happening at the Shubert by doing art projects, participating in actor visits, observing load-ins, or any number of show-specifc opportunities that might come up.  The Education and Outreach department is proud to be a part of the Co-Op team as one of their community partners.
